BAD GIRLS: M.F.K. Fisher

BAD GIRLS: M.F.K. FISHER
"People ask me: Why do you write about food, and eating and drinking? Why don't you write about the struggle for power and security, and about love, the way others do?...The easiest answer is to say that, like most other humans, I am hungry…So it happens that when I write of hunger, I am really writing about love and the hunger for it, and warmth and the love of it and the hunger for it…and the warmth and richness and fine reality of hunger satisfied…and it is all one." M.F.K. Fisher, The Gastronomical Me, 1943
M.F.K. Fisher is one of my favorite bad girls because she was hungry and had the unbridled cool to write about it. Whether sharing her childhood attempt at cooking "Hindu eggs," pining for her beloved while at sea, or uncorking a bottle of local French wine, she wrote with unabashed honesty and a mischievous appetite for life. It doesn't hurt that she was also drop-dead gorgeous and had an affinity – despite the times – for dining alone. Très chic!

She was totally a Zette girl. Any one read her How To Cook a Wolf? Totally Edith Piaf / ragmuffin time :)
That's one of my favorite books, Charlotte! "Cheerfully Starving" is the best essay...but I'd suggest pairing a bachelor's stew with a bottle of Zette Rouge...the price is right! x
Oh to be in Marseilles with MFK in her small bohemian flat, feasting on food, wine and charm.
